The Role of the Nurse Practitioner in Identifying and Managing Hyponatremia in Heart Failure Patients

This webinar will outline the major underlying causes of hyponatremia in Heart Failure (HF) patients, the 2013 EPR guidelines and differential algorithms for diagnosis, the safety and efficacy of current treatment options, and the complexities of HF to take into consideration when individualizing treatment. The vital role of the nurse practitioner will also be discussed to demonstrate the benefits of different perspectives in the diagnosis and treatment of these patients. Finally, experts will provide clinicians with the ability to integrate diagnostic strategies into clinical practice and select treatment options for HF patients with hyponatremia in order to optimize patient outcomes.

Educational Objectives
|
|
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

- Recognize hyponatremia high risk patients including those with HF
- Articulate the role of the Nurse Practitioner in the identification, management of patients with hyponatremia
- Select treatment options for hyponatremia in patients with HF based on the efficacy and safety of available therapies and individual patient profiles
- Explain how to manage patients with hypervolemic and euvolemic hyponatremia, inclusive of safe and effective use of indicated medical interventions
- Describe how to implement strategies that may reduce hospitalization and readmission, such as adherence to therapy, appropriate discharge instructions in HF patients at high risk for developing hyponatremia
